Pioneers Update Jennings Telephone Museum

Pioneers from throughout the state began updating and adding new, interactive exhibits to the Telephone Museum in Jennings. The museum, which features the history of the telephone from its invention in 1876 to modern day wireless technology, has attracted 38,000 visitors since its initial opening in September 1992.

Some of the new exhibits feature an interactive world map, a project room featuring displays and videos
of various Pioneer projects, and a working model of a step-by-step switch which allows students to place calls within the museum using 1940s technology.

Greg Marcantel, Mayor of Jennings, joined Judy Arceneaux, Louisiana Chapter Administrator for the BellSouth Pioneers, in officially reopening the museum. Pioneers from throughout the state, both active and retired members, also participated in the festivities, then spent time touring the museum. The Mayor thanked the Pioneers for their work in refurbishing the museum and indicated that the new interactive exhibits would be a great attraction for future museum visitors.

George Rehage, Past President of Louisiana Chapter 24, presents Greg Marcantel, Mayor of Jennings,  with a few gifts to commemorate the re-dedication of the Louisiana Telephone Pioneer Museum.
